Dorf Tirol, the little sister of Meran
Dorf Tirol is full of attractions: Not only the beauty of the landscape, but also its cultural and historic importance make it well worthwhile a visit. Embedded in the bottom of a valley below the ‘Terrace of the Alps’, the Mount Spoerer, Mount Kuechl and the nature park Texelgruppe which is surrounded by lush meadows; no wonder, since the area is being spoilt with over 300 days of sun!
Dorf Tirol offers all sorts of possible comfort. Apart from luxurious hotels, you will also find traditional inns and family-run guest houses. Historically the village Dorf Tirol plays a very important part, since the counts of Tyrol chose this place for their permanent residence. Later the term Tirol was used to refer to the entire region, namely South Tyrol. If you are keen to find out more about its history, we would highly recommend a visit to Castle Tirol, since it hosts the museum for cultural and regional history. Yet, almost the entire region has a great deal of culture on offer:

The proximity to Meran makes it very convenient to go there on an excursion to the health resort, where you will find numerous concert halls and of course the famous spas. In addition to comfortable walks around Dorf Tirol through vineyards and pergolas, you can also enjoy the scenery during an outing on the cable car which will take you up to the Muthoefe (‘courage homesteads’) – farmyards that were built on steepest ground and are still being used for agriculture. When you walk to the nearby hill, you may very well see some ‘unknown flying objects’ in form of rare bird species. This should however not startle you, because Dorf Tirol also hosts the birds of prey air view which is arranged by the local centre for the protection of endangered species. Here sick animals are being kept, fed and protected. Their feeding time is combined with a flight show, where you are welcome to watch these majestic birds, such as eagles, hawks, falcons or owls. Whatever interest you may wish to pursue, Dorf Tirol will surely make your holiday a pleasant memory.
