Freienfeld in the Eisacktal Valley is situated to the south of Sterzing near Maria Trens and Mauls.
Maria Trens is still nowadays an important place of pilgrimage in South Tyrol: South Tyrol’s second most important pilgrimage church after Maria Weißenstein is located here. Apart from Maria Trens, you can find lots of other interesting sights near Freienfeld. Visit for example Reifenstein Castle near Sterzing; also the castles Sprechenstein and Welfenstein are worth a visit. You will like them!
