The holiday region is situated conveniently between the Eisacktal Valley and the Pustertal Valley and it offers fresh and pure mountain air at an altitude of more than 1,000 m and extensive mountain pastures with more than 40 cosy and welcoming Alpine huts and refuges.
Gitschberg Jochtal belongs to a number of villages - Mühlbach, Rodeneck, Meransen, Vals and Spinges. In addition to a beautiful and still untouched countryside it also offers some sights for culture lovers worth visiting. So for instance you can visit Rodeneck Castle or enjoy the medieval streets of Mühlbach. Above all in the summer months Mühlbach attracts many visitors with its famous culinary weeks, which by now have become a gastronomic highlight in the area.
In the rural villages of Vals and Spinges, however, you can travel back in time, admire a number of ancient farm houses and assist at typical South Tyrolean farm traditions. The farm year culminates in the annual homecoming (returning) of the farm animals (cows and sheep) from the Alpine mountain pastures every autumn. This event surely constitutes a climax in the course of the rural year and attracts locals and tourists alike like a magnet. As you can imagine not only children enjoy this event a lot!
Family friendly area
The holiday region Gitschberg Jochtal is a very family friendly area: most of the walking paths are wide and comfortable enough even for a baby carriage or a buggy. In winter the area turns into a winter paradise and rewarding skiing resort. Gitschberg Jochtal also belongs to the skiing resort network Dolomiti Superski and is equipped with 18 modern ski lifts, 44 km of slopes, 35 cross country skiing tracks and two kids parks.
