Medieval feelings in Glurns
Once upon a time… This is how a description of Glurns in South Tyrol could begin even nowadays. The oldest and smallest town of South Tyrol has hardly changed its medieval image since it was rebuilt after the devastating Swiss war back in 1499.

The entirely intact city wall surrounds the market place with artistically painted houses and mansions as well as the main shopping road, the Alcoves. Watch you head whilst passing through though, because the ground is still constantly rising as a long-term effect of countless historical floodings. All of the three main tower gates are passages to the town and you will be impressed by the the sight of the loopholes and other complicated defensive appliances and measures. Glurns itself however is the cosiest of places and amongst the common and jovial people you will feel more than welcome. You will find a traditional place with a very modern network of hiking paths and biking routes. In winter the whole place looks a great deal more docile, yet there still are plenty of activities that you can enjoy: tobogganing, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowshoe wandering and ice-skating to name but a few. Glurns is an ideal place to find relaxation without boredom!
