Mals in South Tyrol is situated on the heath land of Mals in Upper Vinschgau and belongs to the eldest settlements in the region. Even from afar, the age of the place becomes apparent and you will somehow have the feeling of travelling through time: the many different towers with pinnacles nearly all stem from different ages and all seem to tell their own story.
The tower of the Chapel of St. Benedict majestically overlooks the area and also bears numerous precious frescoes from the Middle Ages of which some were only unearthed at the beginning of the last century. In the village of Mals in South Tyrol itself you will find the Tower of St. Martin which was built in an early Romanesque style and the Tower of St. John which stems from the same epoch. The tower of the Parish Church however is clearly distinct because of its round and sedate form.
