Meransen: holidays in a mountain village
In Meransen in the Eisacktal Valley nature still defines everyday life and holiday activities: in winter there is snow far and wide, in spring the picturesque mountain streams rush extra-loud, in summer cows and sheep graze on the mountain pastures and in autumn the year finds its climax in South Tyrol’s most famous celebration of the return of livestock from the high Alpine summer pastures.
Every October the farm livestock returns from the high Alpine pastures back down to valley. Thousands of curious onlookers, both locals and tourists, take part in this unique celebration of ancient Alpine traditions. Tradition and farm culture are still very much alive in Meransen and its surroundings.

Skiers can take the new ski lift from Meransen to reach the skiing resort Gitschberg Jochtal – it just takes a few minutes.
