Ready, steady, go! Hiking in Muehlbach
If you had wanted to go from the Eisack Valley to the Puster Valley in the old days, you would have had to stop off at the Fortress of Muehlbach (Mühlbacher Klause) and then patiently put up with quite some traffic jam until all the vehicles had dragged on through the narrow and picturesque little alleys and lanes.

Nowadays an excursion to Muehlbach can be quite an exciting trip. Generally the village is rather quiet and remote, since all the main traffic is led via a ring road which has resulted in Muehlbach becoming a pretty idyllic place, where you can contentedly sit down and enjoy a cup of Latte Macchiato, stroll through little lanes or do some window shopping.
The manors and mansions are built in an awesome style that will leave you speechless for quite some time. You can also comfortably make arrangements for your next day trip to somewhere in the abouts: the motorway junction is only about five minutes away and you would hence easily get to Brixen or Pustertal which certainly worthwhile a visit.
You can also get aboard a cable car that will take you to Meran where you can do some hiking or trekking; by bus you will be in the Valser Valley in no time. Here amidst cosy mountain farms, the wild Valser Brook at the foot of the Alps with their impressive glaciers you will find plenty of activities to your liking. In winter there are innumerable cross-country ski slopes, tobogganing slopes or slopes for alpine skiing. You can also go on a snow shoe tour for which you can set off right in front of your hotel. Every season in Muelbach has its very individual charms that make a stay very special indeed!
