Naturns: holidays in the sunny part of South Tyrol
315 days of sun are responsible for making Naturns in South Tyrol the sunniest village in the whole of South Tyrol. Located more or less in front of the gates of Meran and at the entrance to Vinschgau, Naturns has the best possible climate so that it is hardly surprising that the finest apples and most select apricots.
Naturns is also very close to the Nature Park Texelgruppe, where you will find the Nature Park House and innumerable hiking paths in the abouts. You can stroll along the trails of the ‘Sun Mountain’ (Sonnenberg), up to the little Church of St. Proculus which is an architectural jewel because it hosts the oldest wall paintings in any German speaking area.
Naturally, you can also go rafting, Nordic Walking, riding or spend your day in the local swimming pool which is an attraction: between high artificial waves and slides you will certainly be able to let yourself go. The Castle of Juval towers high above the village and also accommodates quite a number of attractions, such as Reinhold Messner’s Tibetan collection and a mask exhibition. With a bit of luck you may even meet Mr. Messner himself and he can tell you about his artefacts from first-hand experience.
