Natz Schabs all over the year
Sitting on a high plateau between Eisack and Rienz, Natz Schabs in South Tyrol is situated in one of the most beautiful spots of the country. The valley is the remainder of glacial streams to which it also owes its fertility that has made it into such high-quality ground.
The splendid climate is an ideal environment for growing wine and the vinedressers have done their best to meliorate their products, so the great reputation for South Tyrolean wine is largely due to their efforts and their pioneering work in Natz-Schabs in particular. No wonder that traditional wine festivals are a real favourite pastime of the local populace and who knows… maybe it will be so with too in a little while.
But Natz Schabs is also the perfect place for growing apples which has developed into a customary occupation that has even given the place yet another traditional festival: During the ‘apple weeks’, you can witness the election and coronation of the ‘apple queen’. This is a very special annual occurrence Natz Schabs which you should under no possible circumstances give a miss! The landscape that has so much been shaped by wine and apple growing is more than tempting for walks and explorative hikes.
In spring the flowerage of the apple trees is in vast contrast to the snow covered Alps which is a magnificent sight. The splendour of growing and blossoming trees and fields reaches its height in summer and then has to give way to the claims of autumn. Then you can set your eyes on a marvellously picturesque panorama: the fallen leaves turning into any colour from bright yellow to claret-red fit perfectly well to the snow-covered mountain peaks and a crystal-clear sky above. The most characteristic feature of the area of course is the winter scenario.
Then you can choose from an entire range of options and activities: Any hotel in Natz-Schabs is an ideal starting point to any skiing resort in the area, such as Plose, Brixen, Gitschberg, the Joch Valley or even the famous Kronplatz/Plan de Corones or Alta Badina, the latter two being a little more distanced however. Apart from skiing you can do some full-moon-tobogganing , cross-country-skiing, ice-skating whatever may be your heart’s desire, you will surely find it Natz Schabs!
