Prags: holidays in a paradise
Prags arguably is one of the most beautiful places on our mother earth! The passage leading from the Puster Valley to the valley of Prags is almost something like a demarcation line: As soon as you have passed it, you will find yourself amidst the sky rising Dolomites surrounded by green fields and picturesque villages.

In this little paradise, stress and trouble seem to vanish in a flash and you can freely enjoy the quiet and embrace a feeling of comfort and contentment. The main attraction in this phantasmagorical landscape is the Lagoon of Prags (Pragser Wildsee) with the Mount Seekofel towering tall above, yet so closely to the water surface, thus giving the impression that it were springing from the lake itself. The Sass dla Porta is one of the deepest running and therefore most probably coldest mountain lakes. Only the very brave dare having a refreshing bath, whilst others mostly prefer a boat trip or going round the lake on horseback.
The astounding beauty of the scenery has a mesmerising effect on everybody – no soul has ever left the place without marvelling at it for days on end. Seeing how the turquoise water radiantly reflects the panorama with the cosy looking Hotel Pragser Wildsee and the adjacent little chapel is indeed an incredible spectacle to the eyes.
Around the lake you will find many other places which are worthwhile a visit: In summer there are numerous hiking or trekking paths lined with inviting mountain pastures, remote meadows and many a romantic place only waiting to be discovered. In winter there are many skiing resorts to choose from.
Fanes-Senes-Prags
The Pragser Wildsee in South Tyrol is part of the Nature Park ‘Fanes-Senes-Prags’ and hence also home to the groundhog: nowhere else on earth the rulers of the Dolomites can be watched in greater numbers or more closely than here. The other great attraction is the Plätzwiese (Prato Piazza) which is an elevated plain in about 6500 feet above sea level. In summer it is a fabulous place for hiking and in winter it is a great slope for tobogganing or cross-country skiing where you can make the onetime experience of running in face of the colossal mountain walls of the Dolomites. Definitely a destination for a vacation that you should not give a miss!
