Discover the Seiser Alm
The Seiser Alm’s fame for being the largest mountain pasture in Europe is certainly justified. Soft meadows with beautiful flowers, including Edelweiß cover an area of 50 km². In the East the Seiser Alm is locked by the huge tines of the Langkofel group, while the impressive Schlern with its huge ‘tower’ Santnerspitze is in the South.
On the Seiser Alm there is no traffic at all, as of the Bellavista parking lot horses are the means of transportation. However, from St. Ulrich in the Gardena Valley you can also reach the Seiser Alm by chair lift. As it is an unparalleled hiking paradise, the Seiser Alm in summer is a place of recreation not only for those living in Bolzano. Innumerable easy to difficult hikes lead from the villages Seis or Kastelruth via picturesque places such as Schlernbödele up to the high plateau. Having reached the top it is simply a must to dive into the rugged mountain landscape and see the Santner or the Langkofel group from up close. From a distance these white mountains are impressive, but from up close the characteristic moon landscape is almost menacing.
Winter on Seiser Alm
In winter, the blanket of flowers that covers the Seiser Alm is exchanged for a blanket of snow and hikers make way for skiers and snowboarders. For the ski resort Seiser Alm offers countless kilometres of slopes set in a breathtaking landscape. For cross-country skiers and snow-shoe hikers the Seiser Alm is paradise as well! In order to preserve this paradise and shield it from mass tourism the region of South Tyrol has declared the Seiser Alm as the nature reserve Schlern.
