V.I.P.'s and pure mountain air: holiday in St. Ulrich
St. Ulrich is the main village in the Gardena Valley in South Tyrol, is famous not only for its breath-taking scenery with the high walls of the Dolomites, rugged rock formations, soft mountain pastures, densely forested steep faces of the Seiser Alm and the picturesque villages, but especially for its people.
In 1892 the most famous South Tyrolean was born here, the film-maker, mountaineer and raconteur Luis Trenker. The pale mountains only gained popularity through his films. Today St. Ulrich, the little alpine village, is still the meeting place for VIPs, stars and starlets. However, as this is the main village in the valley the locals and farmers also like to come together in St. Ulrich for a “Watter” (traditional card game) and a glass of red wine. You will immediately feel the comfort this place that lies between tradition and modernity emanates. Breathe the fresh air, the intensive scent of the mountain pines, herbs and snow-roses.
Leisure time in Gröden
For mountain and hiking fans St. Ulrich is pure paradise: tours, climbing and hiking routes are sheer limitless in the nearby Dolomites. With its direct lift connections, St. Ulrich offers access to the skiing areas Seiser Alm, Seceda and Raschötz, in winter. Apart from toboggan runs, cross-country ski runs, places for ice skating and snow shoeing routes, the Gardena Valley also has a swimming pool as well as many other indoor sports venues. Boredom is never encountered in St. Ulrich, but if you really don’t know what to do, you only need to look up to the pale mountains from your hotel, to the green meadows and the picturesque houses!
