Holidays in Toblach
The community of Toblach in South Tyrol is located in a very scenic spot in the Hochpustertal at about 4000 feet above sea level. In the south lies the Höhlensteintal with the impressive massif of the Drei Zinnen – a mountain chain with three significant peaks in the Dolomites. The Strada d’Alemagna leads through the village past the famous skiing resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo all the way to Venice.
This connection attained quite substantial significance in the 13th century and had been a very exclusive place of recreation for many prominent guests until the Great War. Only at the beginning of the 21st century Tobalch has again become a popular destination for travelling and has since seen many a celebrity. This does however not really astonish, because spending a vacation in Toblach is a source of leisure and recreation.
Hiking and trekking
Toblach is an ideal starting point for hiking and trekking in the Dolomites with its world famous massif, the Drei Zinnen. Being situated in a fabulous skiing region and even having its own ski jump, Toblach is also the perfect place for any kind of winter sports. In summer it is particularly attractive because of the nearby lake that gives the area a very calm atmosphere. In face of the breathtaking mountain panorama, the chance of crossing the lake by boat or rowing about yourself should be an enticing opportunity for everybody. Otherwise you might prefer a visit to nearby Cortina from where you can easily get to the Olympic Sites or go cross-country skiing in the direction of the Silvestertal in winter. There are also other routes, such as the Pfannhorn or the abouts of Toblach itself on which you can embark to explore the area.
Sights and more
If you also prefer culture, then Toblach certainly is the right place for you: Its 18th century parish church belongs to the most beautifully kept baroque churches in the whole of Northern Italy, the cultural centre in town arranges and coordinates the annual music weeks in summer. The event is dedicated to the famous composer Gustav Mahler whom the world class soloists and orchestras in high esteem. Gustav Mahler greatly appreciated the peace and quiet in the vicinity of Toblach and frequently spent his vacation here which is apparently a most suitable place for composing. That is actually s why the concerts take place in his honours. His composing chamber is now open to the public and makes another fine asset to the place.
The cultural centre as well as the attached Nature Park House are both accommodated in the Grand Hotel which has previously been the largest, but also most exquisite hotel in the Hochpustertal. It is well worthwhile a visit in any case and there are plenty of interests that may lead you there: Be it sheer curiosity, the architectural design, the chance to listen to a concert or getting some exercise in the adjoining climbing hall. You may of course simply sit down and enjoy the tremendous sight of the Alps, go for extensive walks on routes that will take you well beyond the reaches of the Pustertal. At any rate, the scenic setting of this spot has given the area quite a reputation far beyond its boundaries.

By the way: To get to know nature in a more authentic way, you will find some highly interesting and very sophisticated viewing rooms and ‘learning paths’ that will broaden your kid’s mind … so that it is not solely up to you to gain information about the Dolomites or to learn to love and appreciate nature!
