Holiday in Tramin an der Weinstraße
Tramin in South Tyrol is a very typical wine-producing commune with innumerable ancient residences and estates. In autumn, the village is at its most traditional, when tractors laden with dark grapes squeeze through the narrow alleys and the scent of fresh must fills the air.
Tramin also has many hiking and cycling paths to offer, through orchard meadows and wine hills, and also up into the lower mountain range. Ever so often you will come across an estate in the midst of fresh meadows, a small chapel or the ruins of an old settlement.
From an art historic point of view, Tramin an der Weinstraße is the most important village of the lowlands: St. Jakob in Kastellaz was not only built by the three parish churches in three different styles, it also houses an important art treasure dating from the 13th century, a Romanesque fresco cycle. You can reach St. Jakob in Kastellaz best by taking a 15-minute hike through idyllic wine hills starting from the main square in Tramin.
You mustn’t depart from Tramin without having visited Kurtatsch to the South and the last village at the “Weinstraße” (wine road), Magreid. While Tramin in South Tyrol has many hotels and pensions, yet sustaining its original character, you will not find any new buildings in either of these two villages. Closely huddled vineyards tell of olden days. Enjoy the special atmosphere and the delicious wine in Tramin an der Weinstraße in South Tyrol!
