On the trace of the witches: holiday in Völs am Schlern
During the middle ages, Völs am Schlern in South Tyrol used to be a place that especially red haired women avoided. Tyrol’s earliest witch trials were prompted by the baron of Völs in this village.

Today the former witch huts have made way for large, impressive hotels and the ‘witches’ have disappeared. In the last few years, however, numerous tourists add to the official population of more than 3000 inhabitants. In the unique, beautiful surroundings they want to forget their everyday troubles and recharge their biological battery. Völs am Schlern is situated amidst the pale mountains of the Dolomites, the Schlern, the Langkofel group and the Santner Peak, all these high, rugged mountains are very inviting to climbing and hiking tours. After a “hard day’s work”, you can dip into the refreshing Völser mere, before indulging in a delicious South Tyrolean dinner in your hotel.
In winter, we invite you for skiing on the Seiser Alm, Europe’s largest alpine grassland, with innumerable softly rolling hills that contribute to untroubled fun on the slope, cross-country skiing as well as snow-shoeing.
Summer in Völs am Schlern
Neither will you ever feel bord in Völs am Schlern in summer: Apart from trekking, cycling, swimming, horse-back riding (on adorable Haflinger horses), Nordic walking, hiking, climbing etc. you can also do some sight-seeing in the beautiful parish church or in the neighbouring communities Kastelruth and Seis. With a little bit of luck you might even run into the chief „Spatz“ („sparrow“) of the Kastelruther Spatzen (Tyrolean folk music group): Norbert Rier. Should you get bored after all, why not set out from you hotel in Völs in South Tyrol in search of a forgotten witch hut deep in the forest!
